The Velcro license plate holder with parking disc from ROBBX made a very good impression overall in our test. The set consists of two license plate holders, the corresponding mounting material as well as a microfiber cloth and a profile depth gauge. The license plate holders are actually frameless, as the entire mounting mechanism is concealed on the back. This gives the vehicle a particularly elegant look. All components of the set were also convincing in the practical test. Although the installation effort is higher compared to a conventional screwed license plate holder, both the adhesive and the Velcro connection hold very well. The microfiber cloth and the tread depth gauge also proved to be useful gadgets in the test.

The Velcro license plate holders from ROBBX were delivered together with other products in a single shipping box. The shipping carton was compact and the individual products had little room to move around. The remaining space in the shipping box was therefore filled with recycled paper filling material. The shipping carton contained the license plate holders with accessories in the product packaging. The product packaging was undamaged and in perfect condition. Both the shipping carton and the product packaging were easy to open without tools.
The product packaging is an elongated cardboard box in an attractive black and red design with a vehicle motif. It contained the two license plate holders, instructions for use, the microfiber cloth, length stickers and a zip bag with a tread depth gauge, removal squeegee and cleaning cloths. The license plate holders have been folded in half to enable compact product packaging. Overall, the set is well protected in the packaging and no unnecessary packaging material has been used.

The set consists of two license plate holders, each consisting of an adhesive hook tape and a loop tape, mounting aids, a microfiber cloth and a profile knife. The mounting aids include four cleaning cloths and four length stickers, with which the license plate holders can be adapted to shorter license plates, as well as a disassembly squeegee, with which the license plates can be detached from the holder. The license plate holders are in two parts and are made of black hook and loop tape. Each license plate holder therefore consists of a loop tape and a hook tape. The front of both tapes is fully coated with the respective hook and loop material. The adhesive surface also covers the entire back. When delivered, there is still a protective layer on the adhesive surface, which is removed for installation. The strips measure 49.5 cm by 9.5 cm. As with car license plates, the corners of the strips are rounded so that they do not protrude after installation. A license plate holder consisting of loop tape and hook tape weighs 69 g with protective film.
The length stickers consist of a printed front side and a removable back side, under which there is an adhesive surface. The front side is printed with various cut lines, which are labeled with the measured length of the license plate. As this does not correspond to the required length of the Velcro tape, this is a practical aid. The cut lengths are graduated in 2 cm increments and are between 50 cm and 34 cm.
The cleaning cloths are alcohol-based cleaning cloths with an alcohol content of 70%. The size is 20 cm by 15 cm. The disassembly squeegee is made of black plastic and is 13.5 cm long. It is easy to bend by hand, but makes a stable impression. There is an eyelet at the end of the handle for hanging it up.
The microfiber cloth is dark grey with a black edge. The brand name ROBBX is embroidered in the bottom left-hand corner. The cloth measures 25 cm by 25 cm and is very thick. Accordingly, the surface feels fluffy. The tread depth gauge is made of white and beige plastic. It has a sliding mechanism with which the measuring tip can be inserted into the tire tread. Unfortunately, the slider is difficult to operate. The rear end of the slider then shows the tread depth on a millimeter scale. In addition, the permissible minimum tread depths for winter and summer tires as well as a recommendation for the minimum tread depth for summer tires are indicated.

We carry out our practical test on the rear bumper of a standard compact car . First, we remove the old license plate holder. This is attached to the plastic of the bumper with four screws and can be quickly removed. The Velcro strips are attached to the rear bumper and the license plate using an adhesive connection. Adhesive bonds can transmit very high forces, but require appropriate handling. For this reason, we adhere exactly to the instructions for use during installation.
Installation is carried out in several steps. If necessary, the Velcro strips must first be shortened to the correct length. Our test license plate has a length of 52 cm and thus corresponds to the standard dimensions of European license plates. Shortening is therefore not necessary in our case. The next step is to clean the back of the license plate and the bumper. The cleaning cloths and the microfiber cloth help here.
The Velcro strips are then attached to the bumper and the license plate. Make sure that the bumper has a continuous surface in the area of the Velcro strip. For example, it is not possible to fit the Velcro to the grille of a radiator grille.
As the Velcro strips are slightly smaller than the license plate itself, it is not necessary to position them with millimeter precision. In our test, we based the positioning on the holes in the bumper into which the old license plate holder was screwed. It is important to ensure that the adhesive tapes are applied with sufficient precision in the first step, as it is not possible to remove them again due to the high adhesive strength of the glue.
The license plate can now be attached to the bumper. The Velcro tape is about one centimeter smaller than the license plate in each direction. This difference can be used for fine alignment by placing the loop tape and the Velcro tape slightly offset on top of each other. If necessary, the license plate can be removed and reattached using the removal tool.
Overall, the installation is easy to carry out, even for users with no manual skills, thanks to the good description. However, the cleaning and the triple positioning (tape on the vehicle, tape on the license plate, license plate on the vehicle) increase the installation effort compared to screw-on license plates. The license plate holder is also suitable for mounting on any rounded bumpers. The limit here is not the license plate holder, but the flexibility of the license plate.
After drying, the license plate adheres firmly to the vehicle and there is no risk of it coming off while driving. The look is particularly impressive. In contrast to many alternative solutions, the Velcro license plate holder is actually frameless, as the entire holding mechanism is concealed behind the license plate.
The microfiber cloth impresses with its thick fabric. Not only can it be used to wipe off dust, it also reliably absorbs liquids. The tread depth gauge is also very easy to use. After just a few seconds, the tread depth can be read with millimeter precision. The minimum tread depth markings are practical for avoiding fines or passing the TÜV test. There is also an indication of the recommended tread depth for safe participation in road traffic.
