Product description of the manufacturer
The BikePeak Sugarloof bike tow rope was developed specifically for use when cycling with children and offers a robust solution for towing children’s bikes on longer tours or on inclines. Instead of relying on an elastic system, the manufacturer uses a high-quality Kevlar rope, which is known for its extreme tensile strength and tear resistance. This enables direct and stable power transmission – without the typical yielding effects of elastic ropes. The rope is approx. 2.5 metres long and is securely attached to both bikes using an aluminium carabiner. It is simple to use and suitable for both short and long periods of use.
Overall, the Sugarloof rope provides a practical, stable and reliable towing aid for family outings by bike. The yellow tow rope is not always clearly visible in practice; it would be desirable if there were more signal colours.
Advantages
- Extremely tear-resistant Kevlar rope
- Simple attachment with carabiners
- Ideal for children’s bikes on tours
Disadvantages
- Yellow pull rope not always easily recognisable in practice

Here we take a closer look at packaging. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor. In addition, adequate protection of the product must of course also be guaranteed. Are the contents of the packaging complete and does the manufacturer make it as easy as possible for me to use the product straight away?

The BikePeak Sugarloof tow rope impresses as soon as it is unpacked with its very well thought-out and sustainable packaging. It is particularly positive to emphasise that no additional plastic packaging was used – a real plus point in terms of sustainability. In addition to the pull rope, a total of three Velcro fasteners for attaching the pulley and two spacers were also included in the package. A printed instruction manual was also included, clearly and comprehensibly explaining how to attach it to adult and children’s bikes. However, it should be mentioned that these are only available in English. Overall, the product leaves a high-quality, well thought-out and user-friendly impression that combines functional design and environmental awareness.

The BikePeak Sugarloof tow rope impresses with its functional and technically sophisticated design, which is specially designed for use when transporting children by bike. The rope is made of high-strength Kevlar, a material known for its exceptional tensile strength, abrasion resistance and durability. The quality of workmanship is consistently high: both the rope itself and the mounted aluminium carabiner are neatly finished and sturdily mounted. Particularly noteworthy is the robust plastic take-up pulley on which the rope is wound ex works. This not only protects the material during transport, but is also equipped with an integrated retraction mechanism. This keeps the rope slightly taut at all times during use, which makes handling much easier and effectively prevents tangling or sagging. The visual design is simple but functional – the product deliberately avoids unnecessary design elements and instead focusses on robust functionality and clear user orientation.

In the comprehensive practical test, the BikePeak Sugarloof tow rope was fully convincing in almost all test categories. In the material strength test, the Kevlar rope withstood all load levels without any visible damage or structural weaknesses – it remained dimensionally stable and fully functional, even at maximum tensile load. The rope also proved to be absolutely resistant to water: it did not absorb any water, dried quickly and showed no material changes.
The fastening security on the bike was also impeccable. The supplied carabiner could be securely and firmly attached to the seat post and held reliably even under tensile load. Attaching and removing the cable was intuitive, quick and possible without tools – a clear plus point for suitability for everyday use.
The only point of criticism was in the area of visibility in low light conditions: Due to the yellow colour, the rope was not consistently easy to see at dusk or in the shade, which slightly weakened the otherwise very good rating in this area. Overall, however, the practical test confirmed excellent functionality and safety – the product fully fulfils its intended purpose.
