In our test , the Kairon blade recept acle pliers incl. blade receptacle assortment from Baurix made a good impression overall. The set consists of the blade receptacle pliers, an assortment box with three different types of blade receptacles and blade plugs with the corresponding insulation. Unfortunately, the number of blade receptacles does not match the specifications, but the set performed well in the practical test. The high-quality pliers can be used to crimp the blade receptacles, although this is only possible without problems from a cable cross-section of 0.75 mm². The blade terminals and blade receptacles hold together very well with the cables. The plug connections also engage firmly and can be separated again. Unfortunately, a small gap remains between the insulation on both sides in the middle of the plug connection.

It also contains an insert to prevent the box containing the pliers from sliding around. Like the product packaging, the box with the pliers is also sealed with a fixed sticker. The sorting case is also shrink-wrapped in a transparent plastic film. Overall, the components of the set are excellently protected from damage during transportation thanks to the very extensive packaging. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of waste, which is why we believe that the plastic film around the sorting case and the additional packaging for the pliers could have been dispensed with.

According to the manufacturer, the set contains a total of 300 parts. The blade receptacles are sensibly arranged in the assortment box. Unfortunately, the stated number of parts is not exactly correct. A count of the type 4.8 blade terminals shows 49 instead of the stated 50, while the insulation for type 4.8 blade receptacles actually contains 56 instead of the stated 50. However, this can be overlooked due to the high total number of blade receptacles. The pliers and the many different sizes of blade receptacles provide the customer with a comprehensive set.

The assortment box is made of transparent plastic. The upper part functions as a lid and has a label printed on both sides. On the inside there is an assignment of the individual sizes to the respective compartment in the lower part of the box. The lower part of the box is divided into 18 individual compartments in which the blade receptacles, blade plugs and insulation are sorted. The individual types of insulation use several compartments. Overall, the assortment box is sufficiently sturdy, well made and very practical.
The blade terminals and blade receptacles are each one-piece and made of brass-colored metal. They both have an open cable holder at the end, into which the wires of the cable can be laid. The wider plug-in part is connected directly to this. The blade terminals and blade receptacles are stable and can hardly be deformed by hand. The workmanship is good.
Spade connectors and blade receptacles are both available as types 2.8, 4.8 and 6.3. The number indicates the mating width in millimetres. The mating thickness also varies accordingly and is between 0.25 mm and 0.4 mm. Type 2.8 is suitable for cable cross-sections between 0.5 mm2 and 1.5 mm2, the other two types for cable cross-sections between 0.75 mm2 and 1.5 mm2.
The insulation is transparent, soft and easily deformable. Separate insulations are available for the individual types of blade receptacles. These consist of a section with a circular cross-section for the cable, which merges into a section with an elongated cross-section for the plug connection. The size of the section for the plug connection varies according to the size of the different types. Only one type of insulation is available for the blade terminals, which has a circular cross-section throughout. The workmanship of the insulation is also good.
The blade terminal pliers are made of black metal and have a red-orange plastic handle to make it easier to squeeze. The pliers consist of four parts which are connected by joints. The receptacles for the blade receptacles differ for different cable cross-section ranges. Although no corresponding plugs are supplied, the pliers also have a receptacle for cable cross-sections between 1.5 mm² and 2.5 mm². The pliers also have a latching mechanism which ensures that the cable lug is sufficiently pressed. An associated emergency release is also available. The crimping force can be adjusted using an adjustment mechanism , for which a Phillips screwdriver is required. Overall, the pliers make a high-quality and robustimpression.

In the practical test, we use the set to connect cables of different cross-sections with the flat connectors. In the first step, it is advisable to push the appropriate insulation onto the cable ends. Once the connectors have been crimped, the insulation can only be pushed onto the connectors from the cable side. We start with a type 4.8 blade receptacle. Now the relevant cable end must be stripped to such an extent that the exposed wires pass through the receptacle of the blade receptacle. The next step is to insert the blade receptacle into the pliers. The holder of the pliers has a wide and a narrow side. The side of the flat receptacle that points towards the cable must be placed towards the wide side. The pliers can now be pressed in about halfway so that the flat receptacle no longer falls out. The latching mechanism, which holds the pliers together, helps here. The cable is then inserted into the receptacle of the blade receptacle in the pliers so that the insulation of the cable ends at the transition between the wide and narrow areas.
The pliers can now be fully closed until the crimping of the blade receptacle is complete. The force required is medium, but can be achieved without any problems. The pliers make a stable impression. The latching mechanism makes it easy to handle. The emergency release of the pliers also works perfectly. After crimping, the final step is to push the insulation over the blade terminal sleeve.
The procedure is identical for the blade terminals; there are no differences to crimping the blade receptacles. While the crimping of types 4.8 and 6.3 with cables of 1 mm² cross-section succeeds without any problems, the cable holder of the blade terminal breaks when crimping type 2.8 with a cable of 0.5 mm². This can be reproduced in several tests. However, crimping is successful in the receptacle for cable cross-sections between 1 mm² and 1.5 mm². However, the blade terminal can then be easily removed from the cable. For this reason, it must be crimped again with the actually suitable receptacle. The blade terminal is then difficult to pull out of the pliers, but is firmly connected to the cable.
With larger cable cross-sections, blade terminals and blade receptacles are firmly connected to the cables even without this procedure. The insulation also adheres well to the blade terminals and blade receptacles. The brass-colored blade receptacles in the transparent insulation also ensure a high-quality look.
The blade terminals and blade receptacles can be plugged together without any problems. The plugs snap into place in a defined manner and hold firmly together. They can also be removed again without any problems. The only criticism of the plug connection is the insulation: there is a small gap of around one millimeter between the insulation of the blade terminal and that of the blade receptacle. Longer insulation on the blade receptacle would remedy this.
