The lunch box for children from Freigeist made a very good impression in our test.
The solid lunch box is made of stainless steel and has an adjustable partition inside. This allows different foods to be stored separately.
The tin is very easy to open and close thanks to the easy-open closure. A BPA-free sealing ring in the lid makes it possible to pack liquids in the lunch box without them leaking.
After removing the sealing ring, the lunch box can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
The tin also comes with an additional sealing ring, two cookie cutters and a cloth bag.
In addition to the children’s version, Freigeist also sells a lunch box for adults.
However, it should be mentioned that the weight of the bread box may be a little heavy for children to carry.
However, on closer inspection of the delivery, we noticed that one of the cookie cutters does not fit into the recess provided in the product packaging and is therefore not optimally secured during transport. In addition, the heavy weight of the lunch box could make it difficult for children to carry. The partition inside the box is also sharp-edged and could lead to injuries. We also noticed that one of the cookie cutters rusts easily.

The first impression
The packaging and labelling
ℹ️ Here we take a closer look at packaging. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor. In addition, adequate protection of the product must of course also be ensured.
Criterion | Remark | Points achieved* |
---|---|---|
Product protection | Sturdy box, product was sufficiently protected | 95 points |
Sustainability Packaging | Paper packaging, very sustainable | 100 points |
Product labelling | Material composition | 100 points |
Miscellaneous | Stylish packaging, interior has recesses for the individual items and is thus fixed in place. green cookie cutter does not fit into the intended recess | 90 points |
Total | 96 points |
*The maximum score is 100 points
The bread box and accessories come in a green and beautifully printed box (see 1st picture). You can see that the young company has put a lot of thought into the packaging. The contents have also been packed compactly and sustainably. The cardboard packaging is thick and extremely sturdy, which contributes significantly to a high level of product protection. Indentations inside the box ensure that the bread box and the red cookie cutter are well secured during transport and do not wobble around. Only the recess for the green cookie cutter is too small, which is why this bread cutter is not ideally secured inside the product packaging (see 2nd picture).
Information on the material composition of the products can be found on the front and back of the box.
To summarise, we find the packaging to be successful and visually very appealing.

The bread box is supplied with a partition inside. The lid of the bread box has a sealing ring. Inside the bread box, the consumer will find an additional sealing ring and a cloth bag. The set is also sent to the consumer with two bread cutters.
There are no instructions for use for the bread box. However, this is not necessary as the use is self-explanatory.
All desirable contact information such as company name, address, e-mail address and service number can be found on the back of the packaging box. For this reason, we have given the item full marks in the “contact information” category.
When opening the box, you will also find a very personalised thank you message addressed to the consumer. On the back of this thank you message, the consumer will also find information about a 5-year guarantee.

Next, we took a closer look at the products (see 1st picture).
The lunch box and the cookie cutters look very high quality and are visually appealing. The elongated shape and rounded corners of the lunch box in particular look very modern. Thanks to its stainless steel finish, the tin also shines and leaves a lasting impression.
The products are also very well made. Nevertheless, we found that the dividing wall inside the tin has sharp edges and could cause injuries.
The products are very sturdy. However, it can happen that the divider inside the bread box slips when the box is shaken.
Due to the very good quality of the box, it can be assumed that the product is durable.
Unfortunately, on closer inspection we noticed that the green cookie cutter has rust stains (see 2nd picture).
This is what our practical test showed
Does the manufacturer keep its advertising promises?
ℹ️ Our practical test is the most relevant and therefore the most important. Here, the product has to undergo a wide range of criteria and tests. We check the functions and product promises of the test article.
Criterion | Remark | Score achieved* |
---|---|---|
Made for children | Easy-open closure, lunch box is relatively heavy, divider is sharp-edged | 60 points |
Dishwasher safe | Lunch box can be cleaned in the dishwasher | 100 points |
Stable and robust | Stainless steel tin is very robust, divider in lunch box can slip | 90 points |
leakproof | Leak-proof due to the sealing ring | 100 points |
Flexible separator | Divider is adjustable and can be removed from the box | 100 points |
Total | 90 points |
*The maximum score is 100 points
In our practical test, we tested the children’s lunch box with regard to the manufacturer’s advertising claims.
To begin with, it should be mentioned that the bread box is very easy to open and close with the easy-open fastener. Food can be stored separately with the help of an adjustable partition (see picture).
Bread can be easily cut out with the supplied cookie cutters (see right in the picture).
The lunch box is also leak-proof, which means that liquids can also be transported in it.
The robustness of the lunch box should be emphasised. It can withstand knocks and sharp pencils and is therefore perfect for everyday use by children.
A particular advantage is that the box and lid can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that the lunch box can be relatively heavy for children. In addition, the dividing wall is relatively sharp-edged, which could possibly lead to injuries. It is also possible for the divider to slip if the lunch box is shaken.
Price/performance ratio
and ratings from consumers
ℹ️ Finally, we look at how the product compares to the competition. Can it keep up with the competition in terms of price and quality? Would we generally recommend buying it? We also analyse consumer reviews and check whether the critical and positive reviews are actually justified.
Criterion | Remark | Score achieved* |
---|---|---|
Price / performance ratio | Lots of accessories for a reasonable price | 95 points |
Rating cut | 4.7 out of 5.0 on Amazon | 85 points |
Total | 90 points |
*The maximum score is 100 points
On the Amazon platform, consumers have given the product an average rating of 4.7 stars. One common criticism is that the lunch box is a little heavy. Many customers like the fact that the tin is easy to open and close. In our practical test, we were able to confirm that the easy-open closure makes the lunch box easy to open and close and that the lunch box is relatively heavy for children.
Prices of up to €29.50 are charged on the Internet for equivalent products. Very inexpensive products are available from as little as €12. With a price of €24.99, the lunch box for children from Freigeist is currently in the middle price segment. The price ratio is good for the quality and the scope of services you get.
