At first glance, the Klarberg brand drain cleaner cuts a fine figure. An attractive and simple bottle in a greenish design makes a good visual impression thanks to the high-quality labelling. The packaging also looks solid and robust to the touch, so that leakage can be ruled out when used properly. The use of a plastic bottle is essential due to the liquid inside and is required for safe transport. Therefore, the use of plastic is not taken into account in terms of sustainability. Additional packaging such as a cardboard box or similar is not used, which we consider to be sensible and resource-saving. Nevertheless, product protection is fully guaranteed.
Comprehensive instructions for use and warnings in five different languages can also be found on the bottle label, so that no further resources are wasted here either.

The product is also impressive on closer inspection.
The first thing you notice when opening the bottle is the safety cap. This not only prevents the bottle from leaking but also offers additional protection for households with small children. However, as with other closures of this type, the bottle can be opened with a combination of pressing and twisting at the same time.
As advertised by the manufacturer, the product itself proves to be surprisingly odourless. Although not completely “odourless”, no pungent, chemical smell can be detected, unlike competing products.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide any information regarding the sustainability of the product. Details on the production of the product, information on CO2 compensation measures or other certifications would be desirable.

The practical test of the Klarberg drain cleaner can be summarised as successful and very simple.
For our test, we treated a shower drain and a sink drain according to the instructions for use. This first involves a brief pre-rinse with hot water. The desired amount of cleaner is then poured into the drain, depending on the degree of blockage. After a certain time, the drain can then be rinsed or reused. For light blockages, 20-60 minutes exposure time and 100ml of cleaner are sufficient; for heavy blockages, the manufacturer recommends 200ml and overnight exposure. We have tried both on the objects mentioned above. The results are impressive. On the one hand, there was a noticeable improvement in water drainage . On the other hand, there were no more bad odours from the drain. As the manufacturer claims that the cleaner is suitable for all pipe materials, the product offers not only excellent performance but also maximum flexibility in use.
The only thing we are not completely convinced of in our test is the dosage . The small size of the bottle head allows for relatively precise pouring. For even easier use, an enclosed measuring unit or a transparent marker along the bottle would be desirable so that the fill level could be seen and measured. We used our own unit of measurement for our test.
The manufacturer also advertises “up to 15 applications” on the label. Even with the lowest recommended dosage of 100ml for light blockages, only 10 applications are possible with 1000ml of cleaner, which we consider to be rather misleading.
On a positive note, however, the cap remains stable even after repeated opening and closing. With regard to the safety of the product and in general, we can therefore speak of a successful and functional product.
