Manufacturer’s Product Description
According to the manufacturer, Xyedyaup cocktail straws are made from sugarcane fiber and are intended as an alternative to conventional plastic straws. The tested set contains 100 straws and was available for €6.99 at the time of testing.
According to the product information, the straws are available in various lengths, diameters, and wall thicknesses, as well as in bendable and non-bendable versions. This provides a selection of different options for various glasses and beverages.
The manufacturer particularly highlights the sugarcane fiber material used. However, our practical test did not examine whether—or to what extent—this results in environmental benefits compared to conventional plastic drinking straws.
In our practical test, we focused in particular on the workmanship, feel, neutral taste and odor, and stability when used with various beverages. We also examined how the material behaves with prolonged use and whether the straws can be reused multiple times.
Advantages
- Sustainable thanks to sugarcane-based manufacturing
- Various sizes and shapes
- Odorless and tasteless
Disadvantages
- May become soft or cracked after prolonged use

The Xyedyaup cocktail straws were delivered in simple cardboard packaging. Inside, the straws were additionally enclosed in plastic packaging. Upon unpacking, no visible damage, kinks, or deformations were observed.
The additional plastic packaging holds the straws together during transport and protects them from external influences. However, with regard to the packaging material used, an alternative with a lower plastic content would be preferable.
The size of the packaging was appropriately scaled to the contents. The product packaging is colorful and displays the essential product information directly on the outside.
No separate instructions for use were included. The straws are self-explanatory, so no additional instructions were needed for basic use. The contents of the package were complete and, with 100 straws, matched the specified quantity.

Visually, the Xyedyaup drinking straws have a simple design. They feature a beige-brownish color and do not include any additional colors or patterns. Upon inspection, the individual drinking straws exhibited a largely uniform appearance.
Upon first touch, the slightly rough surface is noticeable. Compared to conventional plastic straws, the material feels less smooth and exhibits slight irregularities in places. However, these did not impair handling. No noticeable manufacturing defects, significant material variations, or rough cut edges were observed in the tested straws.
According to the manufacturer, the drinking straws are made of sugarcane fiber. If the manufacturer explicitly states that the product is biodegradable, this can also be cited as the manufacturer’s claim. However, whether and under what conditions the material actually biodegrades was not verified as part of our practical test.
According to the available product information, the material was also tested for harmful substances. We were unable to verify this claim ourselves as part of our practical test.

In the practical test, the Xyedyaup cocktail straws were tested with various beverages as well as at different temperatures and consistencies. The slightly rough surface was noticeable while drinking but did not significantly impair handling. The straws could be used without any problems with water, soft drinks, and thicker beverages.
The lack of any noticeable taste was particularly positive. With the beverages tested, no noticeable inherent or foreign taste was detectable during use. The odor test also revealed no abnormalities—neither before use nor while drinking.
There were differences in stability and flexibility among the tested models. The versions with thicker walls initially seemed more stable, but proved to be less flexible when bent more forcefully and could break as a result. The thinner versions were easier to bend and snapped cleanly at the designated point. However, they were more prone to tearing under heavier mechanical stress.
Differences were also evident in terms of repeated use. In the test, the thicker versions could be used for two to three drinks without any significant change in how they felt to use. With the thinner straws, the material became increasingly softer after prolonged use, making reuse less comfortable.
