Gunnar
Intercept Onyx Gaming Glasses with Amber Lenses

Manufacturer’s product description

The Intercept Onyx gaming and computer glasses with amber lenses from Gunnar are designed for users who want to relieve eye strain during prolonged screen time or gaming. Thanks to their built-in blue light filter, large lenses, and adjustable nose pads, they are designed to reduce visual fatigue while providing a comfortable viewing experience. The lightweight design and included fabric pouch also make them suitable for everyday use and easy to carry.

In testing, the glasses impressed above all with their clean craftsmanship and the noticeable effect of the blue light filter. After just a short time, the screen light felt more comfortable, and after prolonged use, there was less eye strain and an overall more relaxed visual experience. The lightweight design and the clear, distortion-free field of view further contributed to the positive overall impression.

There is room for improvement in terms of comfort during very long periods of wear, especially when used with a headset, as well as in cleaning, where minimal residue may occasionally remain visible.

Overall, the Intercept thus presents itself as a well-equipped pair of computer glasses suitable for everyday use with noticeable benefits in practical application—especially for people who regularly spend many hours in front of monitors.

The glasses make a very positive first impression right after unboxing. Visually, with their clean lines and lightly tinted lenses, they look modern and striking. This makes it immediately clear that they are screen glasses. The workmanship appears clean and neat at first glance: all components fit perfectly, no parts stick out, and there are no visible scratches or material defects . The frame feels sturdy and well-made, creating an overall impression of high quality. The feel of the materials conveys a sense of quality right from the first touch. Another positive feature is the included fabric pouch, which protects the glasses as soon as you unpack them and also feels high-quality. The manufacturer has not provided any information regarding sustainability. However, the solid and high-quality impression suggests that the glasses are designed for a long service life, which is a positive factor in terms of sustainability.

The glasses made an immediate high-quality impression during the practical test. As soon as I put them on, I noticed that they sit stably and comfortably on the nose. The adjustable nose pads fit well, and the temples are flexible enough that the glasses neither press nor slip. After wearing them for an extended period—especially in combination with a headset—however, slight pressure points were noticeable, so minor adjustments were necessary. The blue light filter proved effective right from the start of the test: the intense, short-wavelength light from the monitors seemed subdued, and my eyes felt noticeably less strained. After just under two weeks of regular wear, the long-term effects became particularly apparent: my eyes hurt significantly less often, and fatigue set in later. Glare and strain from bright screen content occurred noticeably less frequently, while the amber tint of the lenses was hardly bothersome in everyday life and quickly blended into the visual experience. During the test, the lightweight design of the glasses stood out positively. Weighing about 33 grams, they were barely noticeable on the nose and ears, making them easy to wear flexibly in everyday life. The field of view remained clear and undistorted at all times, whether sitting close to the screen or occasionally looking into the distance. The generously sized lenses allowed for natural eye movement. Cleaning the glasses was mostly straightforward: light smudges could be removed effortlessly. Occasionally, minimal residue might remain visible , though this represents only a minor drawback.

Overall, Gunnar’s gaming glasses proved to be solidly built, comfortable, and functional in practical testing. They impress with their effective blue light protection, light weight, and clear field of view. The only drawbacks are when worn for extended periods with a headset and the minimal residue left after cleaning, though these do not detract from the overall positive impression.
