The 16-piece carving tool set from Holzheld is a very beginner-friendly and high-quality set that is suitable for both beginners and advanced carvers. Upon opening, the user is greeted by a high-quality case with a solid and high-quality finish throughout. A wooden blank and detailed instructions on how to start carving and what to look out for are also included. The very sharp blades, which are protected by a thick plastic sheath, are remarkable. Two sharpening stones with two different grits are also included. It should be noted that the carving tool is designed for softwood and may only be used for this.

The first thing you notice when unpacking is the thick, very sturdy cardboard box. Opening it reveals the high-quality brown case, the wooden blank and instructions. On the back of the opening flap there is also a QR code and an active request from the manufacturer to rate the product. One positive aspect to emphasise is that a small amount of euros is donated to sustainable causes for each rating. The case is opened and closed with a zip. Inside there are 12 different carving tools, which are individually held securely and non-slip with the help of tabs and thick plastic sleeves. All tools have the same high-quality finish.

The tools in the carving set do not differ in terms of the quality of workmanship and detailing. They are all well made and impress with their simple but attractive design. The blades are firmly anchored in the wood and do not slip under load. The sharpening stones supplied have a notch that makes sharpening the blades easier. The blades are very sharp throughout, so the plastic sleeves supplied are correspondingly thick. It is worth noting that the sleeves can only be removed with little effort so that they do not come off the blades during transport, for example. The supplied blank and the instructions also help beginners with their first attempt at carving. The instructions are simple and easy to understand.

In the practical test, all 12 tools in the carving set were first checked for sharpness. All tools were able to carry out the desired cutting and graining work without any problems. At no time did we have the impression that the blades were too blunt or unsuitable. The handles fit naturally and ergonomically in the hand. At no time did I get the impression that the blades could break or bend. The holder also more than withstood the pressure . The instructions in particular make it easier for beginners to get started with carving and the detailed explanations are impressive. The surfaces of the tools are all made of wood. They are very ergonomic in the hand. During longer periods of work, when hands can get wet, a slight slippage was noticeable, but at no time was it dangerous or uncomfortable.

On the Amazon platform, consumers rate the product with an average of 4.6 stars. In individual cases, there are complaints that the carving set was delivered incomplete. On the other hand, the high-quality and functional design as well as the ease of use for beginners are emphasised positively. In our practical test, we were able to confirm that the high-quality and functional design of the carving set is well received by customers. Consumer criticism of the incomplete delivery could not be justified.
